  Take a Sunshine Break 02/08/2015 0 Comments Today was a beautiful day on the lake we enjoyed a picnic lunch, soaking up some rays on deck and then an ice cream waterside. Sunny and 72 degrees what a treat! The Bekemeyer family boats about 40 weeks out of the year only missing for bad weather and the occasional sickness we are blessed. We advocate boating so much sometimes I think we should be called “Boatocologist”. Mental health advocates who prescribe to boating as a stress reliever and family connection. I here from boaters from the north how they have to keep their boats in dry dock months out of the year we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves. We find nothing more relaxing than our mini visits on the water it is a stress reliever the laundry, black history report and dinner to make are all next on the agenda but that time on the lake today was priceless. So I got to thinking I’d like to encourage you all to take a sunshine break. We know the boats are locked up or snowed in but find a way down here to the sunshine state and get your boating fix on. Did you know that the St. John’s River, Harris Chain of lakes and Osceola waterways are all equipped with boat rental businesses? At the top of the St. John’s you can enjoy coastal waterways, upper central Florida along the river you can see hundreds of manatees all wintering in the springs, Osceola county waterways are close to Disney but full of sunny Florida waterways to explore. A car ride or plane ride will get you here in no time and it’s not as expensive as the Disney trip, those are lovely, but there are tons of Inns and small hotels along the waterways and many are very affordable. Rooms from $100-$200 and package deals for the weekend. Boat rentals are around $100 a day but many are near campgrounds that offer cabin stays. Split the cost with family or friends, break out the savings from your coffee can stash or dip into that tax refund make your way south and boat in the sunshine!
