Down and Out But Still Planning. 11/10/2014 0 Comments Unfortunately this weekend came and went and for the first time in a long time no boating for the Bekemeyer’s. Wind nor rain nor clouds nor chilly temperatures can usually keep us from the lake but this week it seems to be a flu or virus but three out of four of us were down and out. We look forward to next weekend and hopefully we will all be well and ready to ride. As we push forward toward the holidays I’d like to mention a few great family boating events if you are free the first weekend of December check out what’s going on in Mount Dora, Florida. On December 5th and 6th they host wonderful family friendly events. Friday evening the streets are all lit up with holiday decorations and the shops stay open late for shopping. The downtown is full of quaint shops and restaurants. The Christmas parade takes place Saturday morning and then that evening the boat parade skirts along the Mount Dora shore for a second holiday parade. We have participated in this boat parade a couple of times and it’s a great way to share a special holiday memories with the family. The Christmas parade downtown starts at 10:00 a.m. and the evening boat parade is from 7-9 p.m. If you plan to do the evening parade you’ll want to put your boat in the water in the afternoon. It’s too crowded and dark just before the parade there’s plenty of docks to tie up around the downtown and you can enjoy the afternoon and have dinner before the parade. Getting out at the ramp can take a while so practice patience and enjoy the event. Be sure to bring flashlights as they will come in handy you can never have enough when boating at night.
