Biggest Toys Biggest Hearts 12/10/2014 0 Comments The Toys for Tots Tour boating event was last weekend and we enjoyed a nice weekend with fellow boaters and contributing to Toys for Tots of Putnam County. This is the 14 th year Rus Matos has headed up the tour and the 10th year it has benefitted the children of Putnam County it’s become a holiday tradition. Boaters came from all over the southeast to run their boats and give to this community. The event was hosted at the Riverside Quality Inn in Palatka. This is a quaint motel along the St. John’s River with waterside views and docks right along the water for mooring. There’s a ramp just across the highway making for a perfect spot for boaters to stay and enjoy the river. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The event kicked off Friday with a run up Dunn’s Creek and lunch on Lake Cresent at Three Bananas restaurant. Saturday the boaters met up once again to make the run up the river for the toy drop off and a lunch at Andersons Lodge. After lunch some of the boaters headed up to Silver Glen for a dip in the spring. The weather was cool in the mornings and warm in the afternoons. There was a bit of fog to deal with but once it burned off the skies were crisp and blue. As a family we snuck away to enjoy the sights along the river and we enjoyed a nice afternoon together. It was great to see all the beautiful boats big and small and hear the rumble of the engines. Awesome pieces of machinery! There was quite an amount of new toys collected for the community of Putnam County adding to the joy of the holidays for their local children. The Putnam County Sheriff’s department was there to escort us and collected the toys for distribution. It was a great day for all involved. Thanks to all
