Hello guys, first post I believe.
I bought a 1969 Hondo flat bottom last night with a 468 big block chevy. The previous owner did not remove the inner valve springs when breaking in a new cam and flattened it out on the first trip. The boat sat parked for about 4 years and now I have it. I am going to go through the motor and freshen it up a bit, but looking for help selecting a camshaft. I am new to the V drive world and a Ford guy, so I am totally out of my element.
The motor is a 468 BBC with flat tops, 1.7 rockers, 7/16 pushrods, GM 3964291 heads and a holley 850dp sitting up top. What RPM range cam should I be looking at? From my limited V drive driving experience, it seems that they don't need a lot of low end power, its like having a high stall converter in a car, when you mash it the rpm flashes up right away. Also, it is has 18% gears and a 12 x 16 degree prop. Anybody offering cam advice and not wondering what gears or prop.... well :bangmyhead:
Any and all input is appreciated. I come from jet boat experience and have finally jumped over and joined the real boat club with this v drive :wink2:
