Ski boat cam and motor advise

Ok,

This is nothing Bob would build as it's way to boring and low hp deal, but hoping some of you can give me a thumbs up or another route for my 454 Chevy build. I am building a very basic ski boat motor for my 17'8" Mandella V-drive. Building it for pulling my kids, cruising and dependability.

454 block .30 over

049 heads with 2.19/1.88 stainless valves. No porting or anything done but oversized valves.

Forged steel crank.

Forged Pistons with large stock con rods. Rotating assembly is balanced.

CC'ing heads and piston size it comes to @ 9.3:1 static. (Easy pump gas)

Motor is going hydraulic flat tappet. Nothing fancy!!

i am looking at a Crane Cam 272-2. 272/284 - 515/510 on a 112 lobe sep. 1600-5400rpm.

Intake is a Performer and a Edelbrock 750.

Exhaust is logs with turndowns going thru transom.

HEI.

72C Velvet drive.

17 gears in the box.

3 blade 11-1/2 x 15

I am thinking with weight of boat, hitting 5k may be luck :)

Any advise or options about cam??

Just want a nice pulling ski boat that sounds good and can be fun up to 5k.

thanks!!!
