This past weekend we found ourselves not only with beautiful spring weather but almost summer temps as we made a quick switch from winter to spring but we’re not complaining will take all the warm sunny days we can get.

It was an all boys weekend as I found myself needing to tend to the household this weekend but you know that’s not such a bad thing.

Some boys and their dads have a love for the game, any game, but not my boy. Ever since he could toddle around he loved anything with a motor. His big plastic little car he’d drive around the yard, the tricycle, matchbox cars, the trash truck, toy fire engines, his room was decorated in a car theme, still is and his favorite…the laundry basket he would sit in and pretend it was his boat. The K-2 preschool teacher would tell me during free play he would sit in a box and shout “RRRRRum, rummm, rummm!” She couldn’t figure it out he would tell her “I’m playing boats” she’d say “Boats are not that loud” and he’d answer “My daddy’s is.”

Joe has grown up boating since he was seven months old and he’d stay on that boat from sun up till sun down. When a boat passes by he can tell you the make, model and engine size. So when the opportunity comes for his dad and him to boat together it’s a peck on the cheek and off they go. Saturday they hung out on Lake Butler at Bird Island he told me how he swam the afternoon away. Sunday after church they went close to home over to Starke Lake were they anchored down for afternoon sun and then a quick dip along the shore. This is time went spent memories Joe will have for a lifetime remembering the long sunny days on the water with his dad, going to boating events and races.

Joe may never be a super star athlete; you never know maybe he will. But he’ll know this one thing his dad loved him enough to spend all his free time with him doing something he loved. He may not ever win a scholarship or hear the roar of the crowd but he’ll know how to be a good dad and that’s worth a million.

May your next adventure in boating find you with someone you love alongside or at least someone you like. ;)
