What a great day, Ideal weather for the majority of the day, fantastic hot cars and hot boats, our own little "cackle fest" from the nostalgia fuel dragsters with their "popcorn" nitro sound, not to mention nitro SMELL...



For me personally, it's the people. People that go to great lengths, and distances, (not to mention expense), to bring their beautiful toys out for all of us to share in...



To Billy B, and all those people behind the scenes, GREAT JOB.... The show seems to have recaptured the "Spirit" that was so prevalent at the very first show..

Did a leak down test on the motor. I'm good there..Where is the best place to hook up a vac gauge for testing the vacuum pump system? Looking to set up my regulator to 8-10".

I've seen a 1/4" fitting welded onto valve covers or to the base of the intake on other deals. Is the the only way to get a gauge on it?

Recommended Intake Gaskets

for a Ford 460. It developed a pretty consistent external leak at the front water jacket. Tightened as much as possible but wouldn't go away. Just wondering what's best to replace them with. Or will any old Fel-Pros, Edelbrocks, Mr Gasket do from my local speed shop?

Ports have some work. Measure about 2" W X 2.25" H



It's a jet (obviously) so there's the concern for excess pressure pushing through which did happen when I first bought the boat 9 years ago. Since that incident, I installed a regulator and haven't had the problem again.



From what I've been reading, the metal core gaskets are not best choice for marine applications. That's what I currently have. Victor Reinz jobs that don't match the ports very well.

I had a want ad for some nice headers for my BBC and he saw my ad called my on the phone and said he had some real nice chrome Bassett headers for 300.00 dollars , sent awesome pictures. Then he said he has a real nice motor mount kit in chrome for BBC for 200.00 ,so I said sure once again awesome pictures and we agreed on 100.00 total shipping from Missouri to Az. He asked me to go to the local Walmart and send him the $600.00 to his Walmart money card . I did so as he asked back on 1/22/15. It took him 3 weeks and all he sent me was some totally crappy rusted out ceramic coated headers, no engine mounts and no response ! I'm going to look at 1995 Ultra LX 21 Openbow, with 454. I hear some Ultra boats have some hull problems. Not sure what to look for? The boats been sitting for about a year & a half. What should I look for

when going to check it out? The seller mentions its been rebuilt with about 40 hours on the engine & pump. How many hours until a pump needs to be rebuilt?

Here is a valve that is commonly used for a Pop-off system. A quick dump valve, mounts inside the boat one end connects to the top fitting on the pop off valve and the other plugs into the 5/32 pressure line from the co2 tank. About $20

Here is the part number for the version that has screw type connections so you can use your own wires. They sell another version that comes with a two wires on either side of the valve for pos and neg but the wire is really small. Gen IV oil passages above filter?

Are these holes suppose to be blocked off like I have them or connected like on the newer gm engines? I believe they are either for an oil cooler or to provide oil to turbos. When I'm priming my oil pump I'm getting very little oil to the rockers, it's only coming out of a few push rods. Checked all rockers and push rods and they are all clear. I'm using an old distributor that I took the cam gear off of and attached a socket to the top to put a drill on. Engine had a complete rebuild and has not been fired yet.

Questions about My new boat

I bought a boat from a guy and he said the alternator was producing too many volts so when you go to shut the boat off it wont kill it. Key off and still running you have to pull the coil plug to kill it. He says that creating too many volts causes it to have an open circuit after its turned off and will just continue to run. Anyone ever heard of anything like that? Can you fix it or just buy a new alternator? Also it has a 750 holley marine carb on it that needs to be gone through, was just thinking about replacing it, Anything wrong with replacing it with a non-marine carb?

I'm looking at buying a 26' Caribbean daycruiser. I've been trying to find one with a white hull but they're few and far between. Heck, these boats in general are few and far between! So I've found one with a cream colored hull, see just below for picture. I'm not a fan of the hull color, or the other colors, so I'm looking at doing something like the second picture down. Maybe black instead of brown, but for sure I want white on the hull. This would include the top of the bow, and the cabin, and the area above the gunnel (top half of the boat).



I know a lot of people are painting these days, but I'm really concerned about the strength and durability of paint. From what I've read, gel is stronger but much more labor intensive to color sand and polish. I've read that prep is about the same. If anybody is willing to venture a guess on cost for either, I'd appreciate that too. I'm also trying to determine whether it's better to hold out for a white hull boat, or painting really is a viable option.



Here's the kind of duty this day cruiser will see: About 10 different outings to the ocean throughout the year (boat parades, random days cruising the harbor), and about five 4-10 day trips to Havasu, Bass Lake, River, etc.

I am in the midst of getting the alky engine ready to go and I am curious if people are running crank supports in K boats? I am running a BHJ balancer and the pulley off the balancer. Is it possible to even run a crank support with a balancer, how would the driveline connection work and is it necessary? Just curious.

The tax error disclosed Friday is a self-inflicted injury that comes on the heels of what President Barack Obama had touted as a successful enrollment season, with about 11.4 million people signed up.



California, which is running its own insurance market, just announced a similar problem affecting about 100,000 people in that state.



The errors mean that nearly 1 million people may have to wait longer to get their tax refunds this year.



Another 50,000 or so who already filed may have to resubmit their returns.



Federal officials also announced a special sign-up extension for uninsured people facing the health care law's tax penalties.

Most everyone is feeling the full effects of winter this week but let’s not lose sight that it is well into February and spring is just around the bend. Soon we’ll be basking in the warm sunlight but not sweating to death yet and the boating days will be joyous. In this bit of a waiting mode it’s a great time to get ready and geared up for the season to come. Just in case you’ve gotten a bit of winter doldrums I’ll refresh you with some tasks you can get the jump on.



Now is a great time to get the boat tuned up and to the shop if you don’t do your own work and beat the beginning season rush. Think about the tires on your tow vehicle and the trailer and don’t forget about greasing the bearings in the trailer. A lot of boating centers and marinas offer discounts before the peak of season.



Upgrade your gear check out all your ropes, life vests, buoys, flares, radios and fire extinguisher. Kids grow fast so make sure the vests still fit and are in working order. Sam’s club offers some really nice vests this time of year as do most of the warehouse club stores. We personally are in need of a new boat bag to keep packed and ready for our trips ours has seen better days. Along with the bag we’re in need of new beach towels and they’re coming out in the stores now as well. The latest tow toys are popping up too; get yours before they’re picked over.



Getting a jump on freshening up and replacing the worn out will have you all ready for the season and starting your purchasing now will spread out the cost instead of one big pre-season hit. Now is the time to make those trip reservations and campground site choices as they fill up fast. I hope you’re all geared up and ready by the time your next adventure in boating kicks off.



Here’s hoping for a quick spring warm up!

It's been a few years since this club had a falling out so to say and Chet left to pursue other interests so I'm volunteering to step up as leader and run things. I've had some experience in the past with running sanctioning bodies like Michigan Sports Car Club and some other groups in college, so it's nothing new. I will take all input, suggestions, and criticism and weigh them in a way that best favors the majority of the group. We're all spread across this great State so having meets and events will hopefully make us tighter and continue to promote the sport of Hot Boating. At the same time, a club/group is only as strong as the effort put forth by its members so it's what you put in that equals what is put out.



With that, what direction do you want to see this club go? What suggestions do you have to improve the current situation? What are some ideas for the future?

Going from a std. Deck BBC , now my Dist naturally won't fit my Tall Deck I have ordered. So being the tight ass I am ,and don't care to pop another $300 for a new MSD , why can't I just take a grinder to the old stop collar and grind it smooth (somewhat smooth if all goes good :wink2: ) and use a slip collar ? The ground down part will be below the intake, so what would it hurt if it was a little rough looking ? Wouldn't see it anyways ?:hmmm:

Thanks to you men who have contacted me already. I'm happy to see others feel like preserving the history and happenings of the river at Parker are worth the effort. I have no doubt I will find lots of support in Parker and Arizona itself for the project. I will meet with people in the government here over the next few weeks to see what the thoughts are. One volunteer suggested a 501 C-3 and that is exactly what it should be. I have access to one and can also get a new one set up through an agent relative. This museum will take shape quickly I think. Think about how you could help and be a charter member responsible for what will be a great tome of memories and boats. Flat water and high RPM the perfect cocktail.

Callies Compstar BBC 4.25 crank 4340 that has had the rods turned .010 under. Does it need to be renitrided? What is the usual depth of hardness on a factory new crank? I notice a lot of builds with Clevite "H" series bearings for large radius journals. Any other's preferable or equal/ better value? Durability for long life mild blown lake cruiser is a priorty. Is it common practice to order several sets of bearings mixing and matching with .0001 over or under to achieve spot on clearance or is that really more of a max effort high end race motor deal? Ok-hammer away at me!

My son said he heard about Chip Ganassi having a private tunnel to test cars in, so I did a little searching and found some very cool reading. There are quite a few stories including a recent Road and Track where Chip bought an abandoned Pa turnpike tunnel and uses it to test full scale cars in . The thing is close to a mile long and he has added a couple hundred feet of an enclosure that looks like a corrugated garage to it. Supposed to hold patents on the intricate telemetry. I'm lost as to connecting a link but google "the secrets of Laurel Hill revealed" I've driven past the one end of this tunnel literally a thousand times in the past ten years and had no idea. Amazing what money AND smarts can achieve!

455 Exhaust Question

Hey guys the suns coming out and my itch is back in full force. Ive been toying with the idea for some time now of finding/fabricating a set of thru transom headers for my 455. I was thinking of something along the lines of MerCruiser/Indmar risers with fabbed elbows to the transom. Similar to what Ka0tyk did on his Tahiti. My biggest problem is that I dont know if anyone ever manufactured a header like that for a 455. I have found plenty of stuff similar to lightning or CMI headers but its all a bit out of my price range. Plus Im thinking its not a great idea to throw that much at some headers for a 455. Ill save that for the next motor. Does anyone have any input or suggestions as to where I could look? or if anyone has ever done anything like this for a 455?

Parker River Runner Museum

I am investigating the forming of an association to promote and build a museum in Parker Az. (undoubtedly the birthplace of river partying and cool boats from the So.Cal boat building hub) to restore and show the great old boats we all ran up and down this river for so many decades. Many states have boat museums. To see the great old boats that ran this river be trashed for the car guys to get motors for restows is tragic. We should save these iconic pieces of OUR history here at this river. I will be talking with Parker Az about a free piece of land and I bet there are guys here with dirt that might donate it. I know there are guys here who have six or eight cool old boats in storage or their garage collecting dust. Lets save our history on this river before they are all trashed. Contact me if you are interested or can help in any way. Organization, promotion, building, management or whatever. Donations to start up also. I think classic boat shows would help to promote our museum right away. I believe there would be national interest in this the home of river party and cool boat fun.

I am starting to investigate the interest in starting a Boat museum in Parker Az. For sixty plus years this has been THE place all the cool boats of the day came to be skied behind, raced and used for family fun. It is the birthplace of River Party in boats and regarded so by guys and gals across the nation. Several states have museums for historic boats used in their area. I believe a Parker River Boat museum would be a national interest and generate great response. Tell me we all didn't jam up and down this river from dam to dam at high speed in some cool old boats. Making the tour along the way, Badenocks, Roadrunner, Sundance and back again. Before all these boats have been parted out to the car restow guys for the motors lets talk about saving some. There is plenty of cheap dirt here and probably some guys with dirt they would donate or loan to the museum. I bet we could put together enough money with an association from boat shows and the like to get a nice big metal building. Flywheel and damper advise

So my 468 after 3 boats and 20 years has thrown in the towel. Going with a Scat 1/4" stroke rotating assembly, block is good.



My Fluidamper and flywheel are toast.



Damper was 8" and not sure which one to go with, choices are 6, 7 and 8"...using an Ati Super.



Flywheel is steel and externally balanced, new deal is internal and choices are steel or aluminum.



The old saying, you can screw up a hundred times but getting it right is a small window.



Lightweight runner with 15 gears, i kind of understand the whole burn the prop etc.



You guy's that have been there, done that are what i'm looking for.

I'm running a somewhat mild BBC 468 with a set of Holley 660's. Currently the jets are 78 primary and 82 secondary. Last time out, checked a plug and it was pretty lean. Also noticed on top end it had a bit of "surge" is the best way to describe it. Anyways, from experience, is it recommended to run them square or staggered like they are? And what size do you guys run? Thanks

Rust removal from prop

I dye check my prop for cracks, but I dislike removing the rust that builds up after use.

I've always used a die grinder with a Scotch-Brite pad, but is there a better way?

I'm thinking that a bead blaster would work quicker, easier and more thorough without having to worry about nicking the blade edges.

Is it customary to finish the prop after cleaning to buff it on a buffer. I haven't, but sure thought about it.



For those who check their props often, how do you recommend cleaning the prop?:3:
