I removed a Comp 11-000-9 billet custom solid roller camshaft with .772" lift in my blown gas BBC 522 engine & installed a Comp 11-694-8 non billet cam (.652" lift). Brodix heads have Manley Nextek 221424 double springs with 250# seat pressure & 670# at full lift of my new cam which is way to much pressure for the new non-billet cam. Comp says do not exceed 500# open pressure with the new cam and closed seat pressure around 170# is good. Problem is the Manley springs in there now are 1.64" diameter & nobody makes a 1.64 OD spring with the lesser pressures that I need. Manley & Comp both want to sell me new 1.55" OD springs, retainers etc. to solve the issue & of course that's a lot of money & trouble. (heads are still on the engine in the boat) I have real nice titanium retainers on these now & would like to use them if possible. Can I remove the inner spring & just run the outer spring alone? I tested the outer spring pressure alone & it has 170# closed & 470# at full .652 lift. Perfect pressure for what I need with just the outer spring. Can I run it safely with just the outers?... Dale
